Leonardo Egúrbida is a respected composer, performer, and teacher in Puerto Rico. Although known more as a teacher and performer than as a composer, he has an impressive catalogue of works, including several beautiful songs. "De tanto quererte" is a part of Seis Canciones de Arte Para Soprano, a group of songs which were transcribed from the composer's original manuscripts by guitarist José Antonio López. López gave the songs their world premiere with Maya Hoover in November of 2001.

De tanto quererte
Carmen Alicia Padilla

De tanto quererte a veces
te lastima mi cariño
¡no sabes como me duele!

El dardo que te clavé
debio clavarse en mi entraña
y producirme la muerte
quisiera quererte más
aunque me cueste la vida
dolor de tanto quererte.

Loving you so much

Loving you so much
hurts you my love
you do not know how it pains me!

The dart that pierced you
ought to have pierced my core
and given me death
I would love to love you more
although it costs me my life
the pain of loving you so much.
